WHY DO YOU TAKE A PRE-AUTHORISATION FEE FOR CHARGING?
Our contactless payment technology offers customers a seamless charging experience across the GRIDSERVE network. No need to fret about apps or membership!
In order to facilitate contactless payment, we temporarily reserve (pre-authorise) a fee from your bank account. At all our charging locations, except Rugby MOTO Services, this pre-authorisation fee is One Pound (£1) to ensure your chosen contactless payment method is available to use. The pre-authorisation amount will be cleared by your bank within a few working days and GRIDSERVE will only bill you for the kWh used. Please note that your final bill will usually exceed the £1 pre-authorised in this regard, depending on the kWh used at the displayed p/kWh pricing at the relevant location.
At Rugby MOTO services this pre-authorisation fee is £25. GRIDSERVE are working with our partners to bring Rugby's pre-authorisation fee in line with the rest of the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway.
Unlike other networks that debit the pre-authorisation fees and then refund them – a process that can take many days to complete, the authentication system we have designed temporarily reserves the fee.
Once the charge session is complete, the pre-authorisation fee is released within seconds, and you will only be charged for the kWh used. On rare occasions, dependent on your bank and other factors beyond our control, the holding fee may take up a couple of days to show on your account.
We recommend you view your transactions using a laptop rather than your mobile app, as the returned holding fee will likely appear more quickly.
